An Application of Groebner Bases to Planarity of Intersection of Surfaces

چکیده
In this paper we use Groebner bases theory with the purpose to determine planarity of intersections of two algebraic surfaces in R. There are specially considered plane sections of a type of conoid which has a cubic egg curve as one of the directrices. The paper investigates a possibility of conic plane sections of this type of conoid. 1. THE BASIC CONCEPT OF GROEBNER BASES Many problems in mathematics can be treated as a problem of solvability of a system of polynomial equations: (1) f1(x1, x2, . . . , xn) = 0 f2(x1, x2, . . . , xn) = 0 .. fm(x1, x2, . . . , xn) = 0 where f1, f2, . . . , fm are polynomials in n variables over set C. The basic topic in the theory of systems of polynomial equations are Groebner bases. Let us define this concept in the next consideration. The polynomial of several variables: (2) P (x1, . . . , xn) = ∑ α∈A0 cα x α1 1 · · ·xn n is considered as a sum over n-tuples α = (α1, . . . , αn) from a finite set A0⊂Nn0 (cα 6=0). The terms x1 1 · · ·xαn n are called the monomials, while the summands cα x α1 1 · · ·xαn n are called the terms of the polynomial. Groebner bases in Java with applications in computer graphics
In this paper we present a Java implementation of the algorithm that computes Buchbereger’s and reduced Groebner's basis step by step. The Java application enables graphical representation of the intersection of two surfaces in 3-dimensional space and determines conditions of existence and planarity of the intersection.
متن کاملPlanarity of Intersection Graph of submodules of a Module
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with identity and $M$ be an unitary $R$-module. The intersection graph of an $R$-module $M$, denoted by $Gamma(M)$, is a simple graph whose vertices are all non-trivial submodules of $M$ and two distinct vertices $N_1$ and $N_2$ are adjacent if and only if $N_1cap N_2neq 0$. In this article, we investigate the concept of a planar intersection graph and maximal subm...
متن کاملA new approach for assessing stability of rock slopes considering centroids of weak zones
The intersection lines between discontinuity surfaces and their intersection points on the visible surfaces of any engineering structure may be the instability indicators. This paper describes a new approach to modelling the intersecting lines and points that would provide the first evaluation of any instability in an engineering structure characterized by the failure modes. In this work, the i...
متن کاملImplicitization of Rational Parametric Surfaces
A generalized projective implicitization theorem is presented that can be used to solve the implicitization of rational parametric curves and surfaces in an affine space. The Groebner bases technique is used to implement the algorithm. The algorithm has the advantages that it can handle base points in a parametrization, and no extra factors will be introduced into an implicit equation. The comp...
متن کاملGroebner Bases Computation in Boolean Rings is P-SPACE
The theory of Groebner Bases, which has recently been honored with the ACM Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award, has become a crucial building block to computer algebra, and is widely used in science, engineering, and computer science. It is wellknown that Groebner bases computation is EXP-SPACE in a general polynomial ring setting. However, for many important applications in computer sci...
